Wine Access members need no introduction to Caparzo's lavish, wild-berry Sangiovese. Ever since we discovered the estate on a buying trip to Tuscany in 2011, its wine has become some of the most beloved and sought-after on Wine Access. 

This 2018 release is a rare Rosso di Montalcino that can compete with some fantastic Brunellos. According to Vinous, "This Rosso is a real knockout; in fact, one of the very best from the 2018 vintage." 

When Ian D'Agata, Vinous’s eminent Italian-wine critic, calls out a Rosso di Montalcino as one of the year's best, we pay attention. When we tasted it, there was no doubt that we had one of Montalcino's most exemplary Sangioveses in our glass. Everything here is fresh, ripe, and juicy, culminating in a long and polished finish.

Caparzo was a kingpin during the 1970s and ‘80s Montalcino renaissance, introducing the concept of cru vineyards to the region in 1977. It's this careful attention to the best vineyard sites that allows Caparzo to create consistent and wonderfully ripe bottlings, year after year. This Rosso di Montalcino is sourced from vineyards in the north and south of the appellation, planted in sandy-stony soils. 

The estate’s vineyards rise around 720–980 feet above sea level and enjoy a gentle Mediterranean warmth that helps produce dense yet fresh berries—a fantastic meeting point of Chianti's enticing aromas and Brunello's power.
