A Standard-Bearer for Pinot Gris
Few names are as closely associated with Alsace as Trimbach. They’ve been one of the defining producers of the picturesque Alsace region since 1626, and today, headed by 12th-generation winemaker Pierre Trimbach, the house reflects the centuries of knowledge and passion that have allowed them to set the bar for nearly 400 years.
Clinging to steep hillsides and rolling along the gentler slopes of Alsace, this region in northeastern France is a storybook place to grow wine. Church steeples pierce the sky in villages that look lifted directly from a Hollywood set, and the wines are among the most crystalline and expressive in the entire country.
Trimbach has been helping to define the picturesque region since 1626, and today, 13 generations later, the wines of Alsace are in a very real sense synonymous with the family name. From the incredibly long-lived Clos Sainte Hune—widely considered to be one of the true jewels of French wine—to ready-to-drink bottlings of Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Gewurztraminer, and more, all of Trimbach’s wines reflect the centuries of knowledge and passion that have allowed them to remain so indispensable for nearly 400 years.
Nearly seven years into its decade-plus life, the 2017 Pinot Gris finds the rare, perfect sweet spot between complexity, energy, and ageworthiness. A rich, decadent version of the noble grape, it opens up beautifully to reveal a lush floral appeal and plenty of lemon preserve and tropical fruit wrapped in mandarin blossom and mineral crushed river stone finish. This is our secret weapon at the table—equally capable of matching a classic roast chicken or a Vietnamese rice-noodle salad.
