“Jaw-Dropping Value from an Amazing Estate.”
Lake County, just north of Napa, is California’s next great Cabernet destination. Andy Beckstoffer is making a major play there—yes, the same Beckstoffer that farms the To Kalon and George III vineyards—and big names up and down the state are exploring the rocky, rugged terrain.
But Clay Shannon saw that potential over 25 years ago—and bought some of the most prized land in the region. This OVIS High Valley is made from the absolute best Cabernet block on Shannon’s stunning property, terroir that deserves to rank among California’s best.
Organically farmed and given a luxe treatment in the winery, spending 30 months in barrel, the OVIS Cab is a wine our own Master Sommelier, Sur Lucero, called “a jaw-dropping value from an amazing estate.”
Lake County, directly above Napa, is a hotbed for some of the most outrageously delicious and affordable red wines in California—and Wine Access members have taken serious notice. They’ve made Clay Shannon’s Lake County reds an absolute sensation since we first offered them last year, noting the stunning quality for the prices across the board, and the 2017 OVIS Cabernet is no exception.
Shannon realized the potential for Lake County early on: In 1996, he bought over 2,000 acres on rocky slopes at 2,500 feet of elevation, overlooking California’s largest natural lake. This was long before growers like Napa’s legendary Andy Beckstoffer bought vineyard land there and declared the region the next big thing in California wine.
On a recent trip there, Sur was so impressed with this powerful bottle that he immediately locked it down for our members. It’s a big wine, befitting a big estate and the sprawling vision of Clay Shannon.
