Vintage Champagne: We’ve always considered it one of life’s true luxuries—and therefore about the furthest thing from common.

But if any bottle proves it can be both, it’s the 2017 Champagne M. Brugnon Blanc de Blancs.

This is the follow-up to the sell-out 2015 bottling that earned some of the most impressive member-ratings of almost ANY Champagne we sell—on par with Billecart-Salmon, Bollinger, and even Louis Roederer’s Cristal. As one pleasantly stunned fan put it in a five-star review: “This was my ‘Wine Find’ of 2022! Normally, I drink Krug NV or some Tête de Cuvée. Everytime I taste a friend on this wine they love it! It is every bit as good.”

A vintage bottling sourced largely from precious Premier Cru terroir, we first had a sip of Alain Brugnon’s gorgeous vintage Blanc de Blancs in his winery a couple years ago. We nabbed our first allocation right there in the cellar, and when he poured us the incredible 2017 on our last visit, we claimed it with equal alacrity.

For this Blanc de Blancs, Alain tapped the chalky Les Barbettes and Les Maladries plots in Rilly la Montagne, with the 35-year-old vines of the former bringing complexity and restraint while the young vines of the latter supply precocity and verve. He preserved that energy by eschewing malolactic fermentation, and the choice shines through in a wine that vibrates with energy. It will delight in its youth but also develop beautifully over the next decade.

This is true vintage Champagne luxury, but without the hefty price tag.
