A Gold Country Red Hits the Flavor Mother Lode
A Gold Country Red Hits the Flavor Mother Lode
Helen Keplinger has a way of doing the unexpected, in a thoroughly unique and delicious manner. From a serendipitous Himalayan meeting that led her to become the Grace Family winemaker, she has charted a one-of-a-kind path through wine country, landing on the cover of Wine Spectator and being named Winemaker of the Year by Food & Wine magazine along the way. In between, she’s set a new standard for Napa Cabernet, and for Rhône varieties grown in the rugged extremes of California’s Sierra Nevada.
The 2016 Caldera comes from the Gold Vine vineyard in the rugged extremes of El Dorado county. A Mourvedre-dominant blend, this Caldera is intensely savory, with aromas of roasted meat and herbs at the start, but revealing rose garden, plum, and citrus oil with time. Get our the decanter for this one, it’s a beautiful expression of what happens when unique terroir and unmatched skill collide.
