Dana Estate's 99-Point Masterpiece

On the heels of our recent Dana offer, the estate generously shared a rare allocation of their ultra-exclusive single-site Lotus Vineyard Cabernet with us.

No winery holds a higher place in our professional estimation than Dana estates because we have seen their dedication to quality first-hand. It’s what keeps them at the top, and makes their wines the crown jewels of collections around the world.

Simply put, this is one of the wines that make Dana Estates what it is. And while our relationship with Dana, coupled with our members’ unprecedented support for the Onda, has secured us this allocation from the stellar 2016 vintage, it hasn’t gotten us much: Our share is so small, we’re only reaching out to the top 1% of Cabernet-buying members at Wine Access. We hope you’ll join us in claiming a few bottles to add to your top-tier California Cabernet collection.

The 99-point 2016 Lotus Vineyard Cabernet hails from the warmest site in the Dana portfolio, and expresses that location in its beautiful full body, power, and concentration. It’s dense and purple to the rim, showing deep black cherry, black currant, and blackberry aromas playing at equal volume with clove, cinnamon, violet, baking chocolate, kirsch, and dried herb notes. As Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate put it, "the palate is an exercise in grace, with wonderfully harmonious perfumed black fruit framed by very fine-grained tannins and bags of freshness, finishing very long." It’s delicious now, and has an incredibly long life ahead of it.

Lotus, while at a lower elevation than other Dana sites, practically gives me vertigo: It’s rooted on the steepest vineyard slopes we've seen in the Valley. The warmest and richest of Dana’s four vineyard sites, Lotus always speaks of blueberry, black cherry, incense, and exotic spices, with full plush tannins and a robust mouthfeel.

Although every modern option is afforded, the winemaking at Dana is remarkably old-school. Winemaker Chris Cooney steers the ship, working closely with consultant Philippe Melka. Incredibly, they’ve got three fermentation rooms: one for cement tanks, one for oak aging, and one for barrel fermenting—all uniquely paired with a vineyard site, something rather unheard of even in Napa.

This wine is the product of an incredible site and an uncompromising dedication to quality, and we're thrilled to be able to offer it to you.
