Galloni: “Exceptional Breeding and Pedigree”

In 2016, one of Bordeaux’s greatest-ever vintages, Château Margaux—one of the most storied wine estates in the world—produced an absolute benchmark for the estate.

We now have the rare privilege of offering this triple-99-point masterpiece—perfectly cellared and with perfect provenance—in EXTREMELY rare half-bottles.

Sourcing impeccable examples of this spectacular wine can be difficult. Enough time has passed that many bottles have changed hands multiple times, which is why today’s offer is such a coup: one of the world’s greatest and most collectible wines, perfectly cellared, in a 375ml format that puts indulging in a top-vintage First Growth well within reach. What could be better?

We’ve got just a couple cases of these spectacular half-bottles earmarked for Wine Access members. They’re sitting in the cold, dark cellars of Château Margaux right now, waiting to be shipped.

Our allocation of the 2016 Château Margaux was born of a conversation we had in 2021 with the estate’s Master Sommelier, Thomas Burke. We were doing an event that featured vintages going back to the mid 1990s, but the 2016 was noticeably absent. We brought it up as the evening drew down, and Burke promised to scour the estate’s library and see what he could come up with. Needless to say, he delivered big time.

The 2016 vintage was staggeringly good, and this Margaux is a monument of a bottling, bearing the sumptuous fruit and beguiling aromatics that are trademarks of the estate. Antonio Galloni of Vinous awarded it 99 points, citing its “irresistible allure” and “sense of total harmony and seductiveness that elevates Margaux into the stratosphere.”
