Volcanic Soil Perfection

St. Eden, grown in the rocky red soils of eastern Oakville that tumbled down from Pritchard Hill a more than a million years ago, earned a perfect score in its first vintage, and the 2016 matched it: 100 points from Jeb Dunnuck, who said that “wine doesn’t get any better.” Vibrant and lively deep purple in hue, it’s alive with macerated black currant and blackberry fruits, black olive, truffle, dried herbs, and a hint of ash. Evolving to include fresh tobacco and savory earth notes, it’s poised and powerful, and brilliantly expressive of its eastern Oakville terroir.
