94-Point “Intense” and “Spicy” Grand Cru

94-Point “Intense” and “Spicy” Grand Cru

Collectors all over the world clamor for the top Grand Cru Burgundies. Because production is often minuscule, however, the best of them are typically impossible to come by. Which makes the fact that we are offering this magnificent 2016 Albert Bichot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru as a Wine Access exclusive, and at prices that are actually much lower than what Sur saw it selling for in the town of Beaune last month, that much more remarkable.

This 94-point beauty, which Wine Spectator praised for its intensity and long aging potential, comes from the Grand Cru Clos de la Roche in the village of Morey St.-Denis, right next door to Gevrey-Chambertin. In fact, Clos de la Roche is often praised for exhibiting the power and assertiveness of the wines from Gevrey-Chambertin, though with an added dose of length and cellar-worthiness.

This one is no different, with plums, mushrooms, and cherries anchoring mineral and violet notes, all of it still tightly wound and promising decades of life ahead. When Sur first tasted this wine, he immediately called the team back home and told us that he wanted to get as much as they would sell us. Turns out we now have the exclusive, which is both unheard-of in the world of Grand Cru Burgundy, and awfully lucky for our customers. There’s not much, however. Order it while you can.
