A Deal That Seems Too Good to Be True

Just one taste of this textbook Pinot Noir, with its plush warm mulberries and deep Bing cherry core, and we knew we struck gold. This is the affordable yet complex Pinot Noir we all dream about but almost never find.

We had to pinch ourselves, but we assure you, this deal is for real: Our close ties in Napa Valley landed us this rare exclusive for our members. The only other place you’ll find it is the winery.

The 2016 Acacia Winery Lake Vineyard Pinot Noir is a compelling single-vineyard Carneros wine with rich, smoke-kissed fruit that typically sells for $50. So imagine our excitement when we learned we could offer it to you for as little as $20 per bottle!

Back in 1960, Rene di Rosa, a philanthropist art collector, had a hunch about Carneros. He bought some land, planted some grapes, and named the plot Winery Lake Vineyard. Acacia Vineyard, as it was then called, established their winery in 1979 and was wise to snatch up some of this good earth. Their reputation grew quickly, and they were the first to offer single-vineyard bottlings in the area.

Of the 150 acres to Acacia Vineyard's name, the Winery Lake Vineyard is indisputably its crown jewel and where the winery itself resides in the heart of the cool Carneros AVA.

Acacia was among the Carneros pioneers, claiming some of the most sought-after parcels. Though the winery has changed hands a few times over the years, their senior winemaker, Matthew Glynn, celebrates his 15th vintage this fall. From New Zealand to Burgundy, this UC-Davis grad traveled the world for years to better understand Pinot Noir, under the tutelage of Domaine Dujac and Domaine de l'Arlot.

But Matthew's heart was in California. The chance to be part of Acacia's reputable legacy pulled him back. And what better place to practice than Carneros—an ideal location for cool-climate-loving Pinot Noir, which benefits from refreshing marine winds coming off the San Pablo Bay and Petaluma Gap. Their focus on single-vineyard wines also fits with Matthew's Burgundian sensibilities.

Sharing tasting notes around the table, this wine saturated our senses with a generous array of warm berry fruit, intricate spices, and a prolonged finish. Stocking up on premium California Pinot Noir at a Monday night price is what you call low-risk. In fact, the only risk you run is not ordering enough.
