2015 Louis Latour Chateau Corton Grancey Grand Cru Burgundy 750 ml

Great Burgundy shows best with age, but finding a Grand Cru Pinot Noir from an EPIC vintage like 2015 usually involves ungodly sums—plus the risk of unknown provenance. 

But not Louis Latour’s 2015 Château Corton Grancey.

We’ve got a tiny allocation of it, direct from their cellar in Beaune. With seven years of age under its belt—and many more ahead of it—this exceptionally rare Pinot Noir represents the holy grail of the famous Hill of Corton, and it’s just starting to hit its stride. 

This special 2015 release comes from a vintage Wine Enthusiast called “one of the best of the century.” One glorious sip shows the mesmerizing complexity and endless nuance that have made wines from this vineyard coveted since the age of Charlemagne.

When we visited Château Corton Grancey, Louis Latour’s home base in Aloxe-Corton—which has been in the Latour family since 1891—we went trekking through the vines, which take root through a mix of clay and rocks the size of tennis balls. We next headed north through the vines of Corton Clos du Roi, then along a hillside until we came to Corton-Charlemagne.

Looking back at Grancey, we could see all five Grand Cru sites that delivered grapes to Louis Latour’s age-old cellar, where the wine was fermented, aged, and bottled. We’d taken a young bottle of Corton Grancey Grand Cru with us, and as we swirled and sipped, we imagined what it would taste like with a few years on it. 

With this 2015, you don’t need to imagine. A rare Pinot Noir that’s ready to relish now, this impeccably cellared wine represents a crown jewel of Burgundy without the royal cost of entry.
