95-Point Star Napa Cab With Bottle Age

95-point Napa Cabernets from the flawless 2015 Napa Valley vintage are not easy to find for under $100—which is why our first offer of the 2015 AXR Cabernet, from renowned 100-point winemaker Jean Hoefliger, sold out in hours. Luckily we were able to score another allocation, which we expect to meet the same fate.

AXR is an absolute favorite of our savviest Cab collectors, and it’s plain to see why: In 2015, Hoefliger crafted four 95-point Cabs for Alpha Omega—and they average over $200 per bottle. But his 2015 AXR Cabernet, which earned the exact same score, boasts an SRP of just $85—and we’ve got it for way less than that! It's our favorite kind of Napa Cabernet: a bottle that combines a great vintage with legendary terroir, and has been allowed to age peacefully for over five years… and STILL comes at a phenomenal value.

AXR Cabs have inspired rave reviews from the pros—Jeb Dunnuck called this one “opulent and sexy”—and from Wine Access members, who have called them “stunning” and “exceptional.” It’s safe to say that those fans will be all over this offer, so don’t delay in claiming your share of this Cab.

2015 is a year that Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate rated 97 points and Vinous loves for Cabs that are “positively stunning in their beauty.” The ‘15 AXR is a perfect combination of a great year meeting a top winemaker—and then given some time to rest in the winery’s cellar.

Hoefliger is a true globe-hopping talent. After getting a viticultural degree in Switzerland, he did formative stints in Bordeaux at Château Carbonnieux and Château Lynch-Bages. Then he turned his focus to the New World, and has made his name making wines that easily sell for $200+ per bottle.

This 2015 shows how a few years in the cellar can allow great Cabernet to blossom. Deeply colored with purple edges and a tinge of ruby in the center, the wine's aromatics are explosive. Cassis jam, sun ripened blackberries, Daphne blossom, and graphite aromas all rush out to greet you on the nose. The palate is where the extra age is really felt, as the flavors are more expansive and rich, with notes of black plums, Dutch cocoa, and blackberry jam, plus the smoothed-out tannins that sculpt a long and silky spice- and fruit-filled finish.

This is almost certainly going to disappear quickly, so don't miss your chance at a 100-point ace's stunning Cabernet!
