One of Our Best Port Bargains Ever

When it comes to cellaring vintage Port, pedigree is paramount. It’s why we’re drawn to Quinta do Crasto in any season: With 400 years of family history and access to truly exceptional vineyards in the central Douro Valley, their wines are perpetual standouts.

Collectors know full well that Quinta do Crasto is one of those smaller stars whose Ports stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those of the better-known houses, like Warre’s, Graham’s, Taylor Fladgate, Croft, and Fonseca. Quinta do Crasto bottlings thread the proverbial needle, delivering incredible sophistication and classic textures with the energy that only comes from smaller, more nimble producers.

Made from 60 year-old vines terraced across the Douro’s vertigo-inducing slopes, their 2014 vintage Port channels the warm season’s best attributes—lush fruit, just enough sweetness, and the structure to cruise for decades.

Situated in Cima Corgo, an hour east of the city of Porto, Quinta do Crasto’s vineyards are classified as grade “A” by the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto (IVDP). On south-facing banks of the Douro River at approximately 2,000 feet elevation, the site has played host to Quinta do Crasto for 400 years: The winery was founded in 1615, and has been guided by proprietors Leonor and Jorge Roquette’s family since 1910.

Aged two years in large Portuguese oak vats, bottled unfined and unfiltered, this bottle will cruise for the next two decades, and beyond. This might be one of the greatest Port bargains we’ve ever offered here at Wine Access.
