Precision & Depth of Top Bordeaux Without the Price Tag

Driven by a desire to showcase special plots that express themselves supremely, Telmo Rodriguez and his business partner Pablo Eguzkiza's attention to site specificity has set Bodega Lanzaga apart since the very beginning.

It’s this drive that pushes the pair to create wines so tantalizing that even those who previously swore they only drank the great crus of Burgundy, Barolo, and Bordeaux will want to take a chance on the 2014 Bodega Lanzaga Rioja Lanzaga.

Growing up in Rioja, Telmo called the centuries-old Remelluri winery home. Thus his deep relationship with the land was ignited early on. It’s clear that his experience in the winery during his formative years continues to guide his winemaking, and it helped to make the 2014 bottling what it is today.

Telmo’s expertise in the land and vines is epitomized in the 2014, as is the site specificity of Lanciego, the petit Basque town where the fruit was sourced. Harkening back to Rioja’s pre-19th century grower/village model, it showcases a level of skill and precision you typically see in wines double the price.

A blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Graciano, the wine provides a traditional Rioja mouthfeel, the bearing of a top-growth Bordeaux, and an integration of fruit and oak that is missed by many a Gran Reserva. The precision and depth of this wine combined with the expert touch of Telmo and Pablo’s winemaking provides the drinker with a strong sense of place with every sip. Therefore achieving the goal for which producers of the top crus all across Europe have been striving for decades.

All of these elements combine to make the 2014 Bodega Lanzaga Rioja Lanzaga a serious Rioja meant to be enjoyed by anyone who loves traditional Old World bottlings and is looking for top-cru quality without the prices.

For those ready to dive head-first into the world of great Rioja, we suggest taking advantage of our case discount—we’re sure you’ll want to revisit this wine time and again.
