Bordeaux “power, stature, gravitas, and density”
From 2003-2009, Saint-Pierre was on a hot streak. But in Issue #194 of The Wine Advocate, Robert Parker alerted collectors worldwide when he called the Saint-Pierre a “candidate for one of the top wines of this remarkable [2010] vintage,” and said that this very 2010 Château Saint-Pierre, “reminded me somewhat of a St. Julien version of another of the superstars of the vintage, the 2010 Pichon Longueville Baron.”
Parker said this knockout blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot is “a wine of great power, stature, gravitas, and density.” Régisseur Jean-Louis Triaud’s 2010 is deep purple in color, with a luscious primary-fruit nose of crushed black fruits, cassis, graphite, and tobacco. Broad, dense, and palate-coating on the attack, massively concentrated and tightly wound, Parker suggests waiting until 2020 to pop a cork — and enjoying the 2010 Château Saint-Pierre over the following 40 years!
We just can’t keep the stuff in stock. We’ve offered Robert Parker’s 97-point “Superstar” 2010 Château St.-Pierre four times to Wine Access clients and each time our tiny allotment disappeared in a few hours. Ever since Robert Parker announced that he would no longer be attending the en primeur tastings in Bordeaux, importers and collectors have been swarming all over Parker’s 97-100 pointers from the 2010 vintage — along with 2009, the highest-rated vintage in history.
