The Next Superstar of Your Cellar

Perfectly aged California Cab is the stuff of wine dreams, until you consider what it typically costs… except on days like today.

This 2010 Broken Earth Winery Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, a fantastically concentrated wine with generous notes of cassis, warm black plums, cloves, violets, and dried herbs, can be had for an incredible $20 per bottle, exclusively on Wine Access.

Let us put it simply: This is a wine that could—and should!—cost a lot more than it does. Broken Earth only makes their Reserve Cab in the best vintages. In 2011, for example, the team didn’t bottle one. But 2010 provided them with some of the best grapes anyone could ever ask for from their perch in Paso Robles.

Within the 713 sustainably farmed acres of Broken Earth’s estate vineyards, there is a single block that was chosen to form the basis of this remarkable wine. Divvying up Block 2B even further, the winemaking team identified individual rows that were Reserve-worthy, which they managed and harvested separately from the others in order to ensure that the final wine was as expressive of their vision as possible.

Once the grapes were hand-picked and fermented, some of them were allowed to continue macerating with the skins. This is one of the reasons that the 2010 Reserve Cabernet is so much more structured than wines that cost infinitely more. As a result, its age-worthiness is absolutely stunning. After the wine rested in French oak barriques, the team went through the barrels one by one and selected only the best of them to make the final cut.

The result, nearly a decade after all that work began in Block 2B, is one of the most structured, delicious Cabernets we’ve tasted recently. This is a wine that could easily go toe-to-toe with the most famous names of Napa Valley—but at less than $30, it’s priced to become your next every-night red.

The 2010 Broken Earth Winery Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a top-tier wine from a great producer that’s been honing their work since 1973. With this 2010 Reserve, the difficult part—the aging and the waiting for the perfect moment to enjoy—has been done for you. All that’s left to do is pop the cork and marvel at a wine that vastly over-delivers. And to let your friends believe you spent a lot more than you did.
