“Even by Latour's Lofty Standards This is Remarkable”

“Overall, the 2005 Bordeaux have turned out brilliantly, and 2005 does appear to be one of the most singular years of the past five decades,” wrote Robert Parker. “This is surely Bordeaux's best vintage of the century so far,” says Jancis Robinson. “The 2005s were always chock full of everything - fruit, acidity, colour and tannin” writes the venerable Master of Wine and co-author of one of the world’s greatest wine volumes, The World Atlas of Wine. Robinson further gushed, “It's not often that tasting 70 powerful red wines energises me, but the showing of 2005 red bordeaux 10 years on organised by London fine-wine trader Bordeaux Index recently was a joy,” she wrote in a report published in February of 2015.

“The most impressive thing about this vintage,” she says, “particularly when compared with the other 'vintages of the century' 2009 and 2010, is how consistently exciting it is.” And Decanter pointed directly at Latour, saying, “The 2005 vintage is definitely a Pauillac year.”

Latour is situated in the Médoc, with immaculate, perfectly manicured rows of vines covering gently rolling slopes that culminate on the Left Bank of the immense Gironde estuary — cool breezes from the Atlantic Ocean usher in an even-keeled, perfect and cleansing climate.

The incredible history of Château Latour is well-documented, and dates back to the 14th century, with the earliest evidence of vineyards appearing in the 17th century. The estate hugs a literal border with Léoville Las Cases. Amazingly, for a short time, the de Segur family (previous owners) also owned Lafite Rothschild and Mouton Rothschild.
