A Celebration of the Miracle of Long-Lived Rioja

Bodega-direct Gran Reserva Rioja boasting four-plus decades of age is extremely rare. That’s why it was such a massive coup that we acquired this 1976 Bodegas Corral Rioja Gran Reserva.

If you have someone special in your life who was born in 1976, we hope you share this with them. But frankly, ANYONE who would love to experience a flawlessly cellared first-class red will be thrilled by this wine. We tasted it (OK, fully drank it) together as a team, and it’s showing absolutely beautifully—mature and full of life!

Founded in 1898, Bodegas Corral is a bastion of tradition in the Rioja town of Navarrete. It’s located on the original pilgrims’ trail called the “Ruta Jacobea” (Way of St. James), the northern route to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. This wine was grown on vines that were 36 to 51 years old in 1976—and hasn’t left the winery since it was made there in that year.

When you’re ready to crack it open, we recommend standing this bottle upright in a dark, cool place overnight before opening. Due to the age of the wine, use a Durand opener or combination of ah-so and corkscrew to ensure clean removal of the cork. Then sip the wine frequently, as it changes form minute by minute, blooming and contracting and blooming again.

This Gran Reserva is a special occasion in itself, a bottle to open in celebration of red wine in Rioja and the miraculous longevity great bottles can offer. We hope you enjoy every sip!
