Advocate: “A Big, Bold and Boisterous Wine”

Quilceda Creek is more than THE collectible Cabernet from Washington State. It’s a bottle that stands with the greatest wines of Napa Valley and Bordeaux. The winery has received EIGHT 100-point scores from the Wine Advocate alone—one more than Screaming Eagle and Dalle Valle—and 21 perfect ratings across all major critics.

Ask founder Alex Golitzin about his favorite wines, and he’ll tell you about a revelatory 1982 Château Pichon-Lalande or a kingly 1990 Château Montrose—bottles whose poised combination of layered structure and balance clearly formed the mold for releases like this one.

Alex was tutored by Napa legend André Tchelistcheff…who happened to be his uncle. It was Tchelistcheff who counseled him to focus on one grape. Golitzin took the advice to heart, seeking single-minded perfection and becoming what the Wine Advocate has called “Washington’s benchmark for world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.” Our personal collection of Quilceda Creek stretches back into the late 1990s, and the 2021 is one of the finest we’ve tasted yet from the estate, showing a harmonious texture that earlier, stiffer vintages required several years of cellaring to attain.

Washington State had a very hot year in 2021, and producers like Quilceda Creek fielded it perfectly. 90% of this wine came from the legendary Champoux Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills—one of the oldest and most famous vineyards in the state—and it shows the signature dark blueberry and balsam aromas we expect from that top terroir, along with beautiful hints of vanilla and cinnamon from 22 months of aging in new French oak.

This collector’s bottle stands among the best in the world. Cellar accordingly.
