    Unbelievably Delicious!

Take a sip of the 2020 Pascal et Alain Lorieux Expression Chinon and you’ll understand why Loire Valley Cabernet Francs—particularly those from the Lorieux clan—inspire such raves and loyalty. The nose bursts with classic notes of fresh raspberries, accented by grilled herbs, rose petals, dried tea, and wet stones. The palate delivers bright red fruit, bacon, iron ore, fresh tobacco, and roasted mushrooms, all built on silky tannins and electrified with beautiful acidity.

Chinon is beloved within the wine industry, but it remains a bit off the radar of the wine mainstream. By far the richest of the Loire’s regal reds, great Chinons like this 2020 Expression bring a succulence and depth of flavor that is often reminiscent of Right Bank Bordeaux—and they bring it for a relative bargain.

Alain and Pascal Lorieux are fourth-generation vintners who merged their families’ farms in 1993. The 2020 Expression is 100% Cabernet Franc, grown on mineral-rich clay, hand-harvested, and macerated for a leisurely five to six weeks to extract flavor. It brings the perfumed aromas, silky tannins, and powerful vibrancy that make Chinon one-of-a-kind.

Lorieux is one of our very favorite producers of Chinon, and we love this bottle’s friendlier, easier-drinking style. Aged in stainless steel, it’s not too intense, and unbelievably delicious!
