The Next Generation of a Napa Icon

The Next Generation of a Napa Icon

Growing up around Araujo Estate, which Robert Parker called “one of the world’s greatest estates,” Jaime Araujo absorbed all the lessons of a winery that stands for uncompromising quality and inspires cult-like demand. It just took years before she had an idea that she wanted to be in the wine business herself.

Fortunately, Jaime is applying the experience of growing up as a part of one of Napa Valley’s most legendary wine families to her stellar Trois Noix Cabernet.

Even more fortunate was our chance meeting with Jaime at Auction Napa Valley, which led us to a special allocation of her 2015 Trois Noix Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the most stunning under-$100 Cabernets we’ve tasted from Napa Valley. Because of our personal relationship with Jaime, we have a small amount of this sought-after Cabernet for Wine Access members, at the best price in the nation.

Showing brooding aromas of espresso, clove, allspice, Maduro tobacco, and licorice balanced by sweet pomegranate, boysenberry, black cherry notes, and graceful tannins, Trois Noix displays the kind of quality you’d expect from a Cabernet of such iconic pedigree.

Before Bond, Realm, Screaming Eagle, and Tusk, there was Araujo Estate, and it would’ve been easy for Jaime to settle into the Napa status quo, and continue the family legacy. But Jaime’s journey from her upbringing at a world-class winery to being a proprietor herself was anything but traditional—in fact, her revelation came 6,000 miles from Napa Valley.

“I never really appreciated wine until I moved. But living in Paris gave me a different view of wine as something cultural.” After spending roughly half of her life abroad doing everything from acting to consulting for wineries, Jaime returned to Napa Valley. Trois Noix is the culmination of the vast insight and experience that Jaime earned growing up at a renowned Napa Valley estate, working in wine abroad, and returning home to craft a wine of her own, utilizing her relationships to access some of the best Cabernet grapes in Napa Valley.

The 2015 is all about balance, elegance, and immediate enjoyability. Blended from vineyards in the Cabernet epicenters of Rutherford and Oakville, Trois Noix was aged for 15 months in 100% new French oak of varying toast levels, making it super-silky and drinkable—exactly what Jaime wished for the wine.

“Trois Noix has the structure to last, but it’s a wine you can take great pleasure in right now. Maybe you’ll want another glass, maybe you’ll have it with food. The most important thing is that it gives pleasure.”

And this wine most certainly gives pleasure, as we learned first-hand at our long and leisurely lunch—which lasted until every last drop of the Trois Noix was gone. In the tradition established by her family, Trois Noix fits perfectly within the upper echelon of Napa wines, combining Napa’s signature terroir with polished fruit, refined tannins, and flavors that inspire sip after sip.

We only wish there was more Trois Noix to share. Don’t wait to taste what Napa’s next generation is bringing to the table.
