Why We Chose It
Sometimes being first really pays off. Almost 30 years ago Harry Peterson-Nedry began scouting potential vineyard locations in Oregon's burgeoning wine country. He soon discovered what's now called Ribbon Ridge, an ancient, uniform sedimentary hillside at the extreme western end of the Chehalem Mountains. After conducting extensive soil studies, he secured a pristine parcel and planted the first vines on what he called Ridgecrest Vineyards in 1982.
Twenty years later, Peterson-Nedry's Ridgecrest Vineyards Pinot Noirs were well established in the very top echelon of Oregon's Pinot hierarchy. But Peterson-Nedry's pioneer spirit hadn't abated. He began making tiny experimental bottlings of Ridgecrest Pinot Noir, choosing specific barrels so as to fashion a highly structured, superbly ageworthy Pinot Noir. By 2002, twenty years after the first planting, he decided to make a special micro-batch of Pinot Noir. He named the wine "RR."
Almost never seen outside of the tasting room, "RR" is a different look at Ridgecrest; Peterson-Nedry produces just a few hundred cases of this profoundly muscular and masculine Pinot Noir. In 2005, a vintage Harry describes as 'a perfectly Burgundian vintage in Oregon,' only 19 Ridgecrest barrels were chosen for this astonishing, Vosne Romanee-like bottling.
The 2005 RR is the first release to enjoy the extended hang time provided by cooler temperatures. The result is a rich and perfectly balanced Pinot Noir, with fine acid balance and structure; a superbly complex Pinot Noir that will age gracefully for a decade.
Just 75 cases, almost 15 percent of the 2005 "RR" Pinot Noir production, have been earmarked for our best customers. Free shipping on 6 bottles or more.

Tasting Notes
2005 RR Pinot Noir Ridgecrest Vineyards Ribbon Ridge
"Distinctly spicy, with lots of black pepper and clove character weaving through the lithe cherry and plum fruit, which lingers against refined tannins and lively acidity. This winery was formerly Ribbon Ridge Vineyards. Best from 2010 through 2016. 536 cases made."
