A “Dream Vintage” on Mt. Veeder

A “Dream Vintage” on Mt. Veeder

Single vineyard Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon is typically north of the $100+ mark. Think Lokoya ($500) Tom Eddy ($175), Hall ($160) and O'Shaughnessy ($120). Compared to its neighbours, Rubissow, is a great value at its winery price of $95 per bottle. So, when we got a call from the winery with the great news that they would like to give Wine Access clients the opportunity to secure the phenomenal 2014 vintage at an incredible $45, we didn’t miss a beat. At 53% off the winery price, and with only 40 cases available — only the quickest to click “Buy” will secure this incredible deal.

Peter Rubissow and Ariel Rubissow-Okamoto’s father George and his winemaking partner Tony Sargent founded Rubissow-Sargent in the 1980s, sourcing entirely from their 45-acre Rubissow estate on the southern hillsides of Napa’s Mt. Veeder. The siblings were prepared in 2008 when they took the handoff from the retiring founders, having worked in sales and in the vines for the company for 15 years. With winemaker Timothy Milos on board, Rubissow’s focus continues to be on rare, single-vineyard wines with a deep expression of place and ageability.

This 2014 release — an unfined and unfiltered blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Merlot — testifies to the enduring legacy of André Tchelistcheff, founding consultant and guide when Rubissow’s hillsides were planted in 1983. The “Little Russian’s” influence can be tasted in each sip of this bold and opulent Mt. Veeder Cabernet. For less than $50, with enough acidity and complexity to age, and standing as a testament to Wine Spectator’s “dream vintage,” this is one steal of a Napa Cabernet.
